I don?t think I'd use galvanized steel fence wire unless you want to replace
it after a few years.  Aluminum fence wire might work well.  Otherwise check
with a scrap metal dealer for odd lots of copper wire.

The suggestion to look for copper salvaged from a motor or a power 
transformer is a good one. I happened upon a few thousand feet, 
continuous, from a power transformer.  Several hams report using steel 
electric fence wire very successfully and the price is low.
