Gentlemen,
I would like to address a couple of posts....
The antenna had been tested on the ground. I'm
certainly not an engineer, but I was systematic in
what analysis I could perform. The problem developed
only when all 4 motors were connected, at which time
the power supply kicked off. Individually and up to 3
motors, worked fine. The elements moved in and out.
I'm not sure any other testing could have been
done...but in all candor, I don't know. With the heavy
duty powersupply, the system kept running and finally
the problem with the reflector motor was revealed.
Sure, in hindsight, I should have waited until the
"assumed" power supply problem had been resolved, but
I don't think Jerry had any reason to assume that a
new power supply wouldn't fix the problem. Not having
had prior experience with Steppir yagis, I had no
reason to question his advice. If I had not had a
crane and tower installation help coming in 3
days....a process that had been scheduled, with some
difficulty, for many months, I certainly would have
waited....should have, could have, would have.
I made these posts in the hope of getting a simple
solution to this problem, so the antenna would not
have to be taken down.... not to point fingers or
place blame.
The SteppIR folks have provided great support and gone
the distance to try and resolve this problem. I am
very appreciative for all of their help.
I'm convinced this is a very good antenna, but like
others, obviously not without potential problems.
Since I have to take it off the tower to fix the
problem, I've not decided what I will do with it...put
it back up or replace it with something a bit less
complicated. Sure, I'm not excited about the extra
expense of the experience. Nevertheless, I believe
that it is an excellent and well tested product, with
good support. Nothing is perfect. What's done is
done.
Guys, please don't start flaming...doesn't add
anything to the dialogue.
