Actually, a properly done eye splice is the strongest way to put a loop on the 
end of a line, but is permanent. Preferably with a metal eye in it.

For laid rope, I still prefer either a wall and crown or a Matthew Walker as a 
stopper knot, but then again, I tie knots for fun.
Btw, all of these are not “quick” things to do, although an eye splice isn’t 
too bad if you have the right tool (a fid)
