While I realize this is probably referring to the setting up of WSJT schedules,
my mind wandered to the issue of generally making sure that one maximizes their
opportunity to make QSO's.

One way would be to use CU2QSO (all-amateur, unassisted and real-time).  If
someone pops up on your screen, you setup the sched for the other bands. 
Interestingly, up to this point, it's been a 2-meter only thing...but I suppose
there's no reason to limit things only there.  CU2QSO activity on 50.620 FM by
rovers could easily be used to snag DX grids if the band were to open
unexpectedly.

Of course, I remember that you are opposed to the use of that system too,
