In a message dated 97-04-04 23:06:30 EST, you write:

<< Broadcast stations are assigned an ERP power, usually limited by field
strength in a direction(s) that bothers another station(s).

 That seems clear.

In the case of AM Broadcast stations, which is what was stated in earlier
message, this ERP power is NOT SO. They are assigned operating power that is
usually measured at the input to the tower in a non-directional antenna or at
the input to the common point in a directional system. In some rare casses
they allow power measurement by a wattmeter in a transmitter. Under some
situations power is determined by the indirect method...input power times the
transmitter efficiency.
