I have used Hytowers since the '60's when they came out.
Of course this works...it is the interconnecting wires and the first few inches
of rod that are providing you with a reasonable match to a 50 ohm line.
The more radials you lay out, the better your radiation efficiency will be.
Many short radials are better than just a few long ones. As you lay radials,
the impedence at the base will decrease to 36 ohms or so, and you can
match this with an un un transformer.

I agree...this thread needs to move to TowerTalk reflector.
