True as a general issue, but in practice all depends by which diodes 
and what's the peak duration/current involved. Evidently, 1N4005 are 
not enough compliant with the general assumption if compared with a 
larger power zener in the specific application.
But, at least, 1N4005 were fast enough to protect fuses.
