Y'know, this statement keeps popping up, supposed to happen apparently
even when simply placed in TX, without any drive. The 3-500's in my
SB-220 don't glow noticeably at 400 W RTTY. Only ever seen them glow
when the band switch went open circuit, at plenty of drive. The light
level in that vicinity is low so it is not a question of lack of visual
contrast. Maybe oiling the cooling fan was the killer move.. 

But I do try and maintain a low antenna SWR, direct match, no external
tuners or gadgets.
