Walt isn't advocating anything that hasn't been described for many
years in many texts.
Walt isn't the one who came up with the idea or description of a
conjugate match.
The problem occurs because someone took the Thevenin model
and used it outside of the limits of the model to describe silly
things like source efficiency.
Then they messed the whole thing up further by separating the
Thevenin model and Norton model into two different PA's...saying
one PA acts like a Thevenin model and one like a Norton model.
If you look at the descriptions of these generator models, you will
see they are 100% interchangeable and never intended to describe
anything more than energy transfer. The models can't be used to
determine efficiency in non-linear parts of the system, the
theorems themselves state that.
