So true.  I got a 4-1000 off of ebay that the "fil tested good" -- but the
filler nipple was broken off.  Since you cannot perform a continuity check
on the filament without seeing the nipple -- or its shattered remnants -- I
confronted the seller.

I'm pretty sure he knew how bad the jug was because he returned the
purchase price AND the shipping, and left me the tube to dispose of.  Hmm,
thorium-filled low-level radioactive waste.

It was not a total loss.  I was inconvenienced, but got a free mechanical
sample.  So when I go build a 4-1000 deck, I have a sample to build around,
with absolutely no fear of accidental breakage.
