What kind of Ameritron is it? It seems funny that he's telling you to
*TRANSMIT* more often, because what's the difference between standby and online
when you're not transmitting?? Maybe he's telling to to turn it off between
transmissions, which doesn't make a lot of sense either. I now have RF Parts
3-500ZGs in my amp (my second amp now) and have not had any problems with
leaving an amp in standby. The problem I had was with Eimac tubes in my TL-922
that had the classic weak plate welds. The anodes ended up shorting the HV to
the grounded grids and melted the grid chokes. I now abuse Chinese RF Parts
tubes in my Henry 3K-A and they just sit there and take the punishment and
crank out legal limit. Bad tubes seems like a poor diagnosis.

Just wondering if anyone has had this problem with this amp. My amp
is still under warranty so that is good. Anyhow, after having the
amp on standby for about 1 hour, a very loud bang and is heard.
After a call to Willie at Ameritron. We came up with a bad tube and
a blown 51-ohm grid resister. The D117 diode is was ok and did not
need replaced. Now this has happened two times now on different
tubes. Willie said it was a tube problem and the quality of the
china tubes was not that good. He also said not to leave the amp in
standby very long.
Has anyone got any thought this?
Thanks
Larry
