Will,

Please go to this Yahoogroup:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hp_agilent_equipment/

And ask your 8640B questions. Lots of very
knowledgeable and very helpful people there, many
who've been doing their own test gear maintenance for
years. A treasure trove of useful people and info for
hams with HP test gear.

AFAIK, the 8640B is not synthesized; you will not get
1Hz accuracy from it. Its claim to fame is not
frequency accuracy, but rather, low phase noise.

All,

This I know is off topic but I need some help. I am
receiving a HP 8640B signal
generator, and have heard of some nightmares
concerning the tuning cavity it
uses. I'm wondering what I need to look for on this,
and if any lubrication
ought to be done before using it too much, etc. My
other generators are all
digitally tuned and do not have this so I'm wondering
what I may be in for if I
see any problems. I bought this generator for my
calibration bench to be driven
off my GPS standard. I am also going to calibrate the
internal OCXO with the
standard before I use the standard to discipline it
getting it as close as
possible. I think the varactor in the OCXO only allows
1 Hz tuning? If anyone
could, please e-mail me about these off the list. It
would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Will
