Thanks to all that have replied to my post,

I have now cleaned the the valves, chimneys and inside of lid with sugar 
soap (worked a treat),
It's a lot better now and the solid air freshener near the intake helps !!!!
I think at some point I will need to dig a bit deeper into the amp and give 
the same
treatment to the fan. That will be another weekend job to do when the 
EasyTune kit
and external fan arrives.
