"Has anyone found a decent cheap temperature sensor/guage (perhaps even at
harbor freight, etc) that you could place at a specified location in the
exhaust airstream of the tubes, of various amps to see and record what is
"normal" temp ranges? "

I bought a dvm with a temp sensor - but it may have a problem around rf. It
should be possible to bypass and isolate the probe, then install the meter
remotely. Another solution is to use a thermistor and an analog meter set
up as an ohmmeter. You will need to calibrate that, but it would be rf
immune.
