When 4X1's and other tubes were common in BC AM and FM TX's the pulls were
either trashed or given to anyone who asked. I used to get them regularly,
build amps for others and then Id be ready for more.

When station owners went with outside contractors servicing many
transmitters the sources dried up as the tubes were run down to the
basically useless level. Start on FM, go to AM RF service and then audio.
When I had to start buying them from other sources I never had to pay over
$50, I even got a NIB 4PR1000A last year for $20 and a used regular 4X1 was
tossed in as an unknown.

These days the sockets and chimneys are the hard part and its often cheaper
to build with a poor IMD Ruskie or even an 8877 pull.

The 4CX1000A/4CX1500B is similar. NIB tubes are everywhere cheap as the
military flooded the surplus market, $100-150 is typical. You need a
mortgage for the socket and even the Chinese one isnt cheap.

The 4CX250/300/350 family is another military surplus item, the price is
climbing a bit as more hams decide to use them in lieu of more expensive
alternatives. $50-75 seems to be the latest range for NIB. The 8930 has
never been cheap unless your lucky as they werent in heavy use.

Im still looking for another plastic 4x1 socket and a couple of chimneys.
