I love the 4-1000As as well. Have one homebrew one myself.
With good tube can output 2.5kW with enough plate voltage.
  But a pair class C will  run a cool 5kW. I have the plate transformer
and inductors for one used for lowband VHF police transmitter with 5kW output.
It took two strong people on the ends of a pipe to lift it up and put it into
my car trunk. Also have swinging and fixed chokes for filter.

The typical 5KW AM BCB transmitter of the 50's and 60's used a pair of
4-1000A's for RF and another pair as modulators.By the 80's most were
replaced with a 3CX3000A7 RF stage and later SS.
