OK Dave. I was basing the theory about doing this on the fact that
Dishtronix uses pin diode switching (as an option) in their HF amplifier.

I don't think you want to use a PIN diode. A normal PIN diode switch
has a lower frequency limit of around 10 MHz, as you need to rely on
the fact the diode acts as a resitor to RF, not as a diode. At low
frequencies, it will act as a diode, and that is undesirable for RF
use.
I can't see any reason to use a PIN diode in DC switching.
