Paul, once the old plate inductors are removed, is there not enough room
for a single 160m inductor?
I suspect the toroids are used for 160m primarily to save some space in a
typically crowded plate circuit enclosure rather than a performance
improvement issue. I see reports of core heating and that means there is loss
involved. The loss is deducted from rf output. Air wound inductors also have
losses but generally within reason when proper wire size is used.

I'm going to convert a SB221 to a single band 160M amp. It seems most
of the amps these days use a toroidal coil for the 160M Output PI
network. Does anybody know what cores are typically used for the 160M
toroid?
Thanks
