You could do a reasonable job of seeing how they handle the current
using a low voltage DC supply, since they are only going to get hot
when conducting, and you can force them to conduct without having a
high voltage supply, it should be easy to see how they handle 2A.

Of course, in normal use the current waveform would not be constant,
but if they are rated for 2A forward current, testing them is probably
the best way.
