KM9P's dilemma

Subject: KM9P's dilemma

> KM9P: we've had the displeasure of operating from the central United States
in a
DX contest. Believe it or not, you can't run people for 36 hours in
WPX
from west of W8. Oh... your thinking I'm just another whiner? I'll
tell
you what, you go guest op. at W0AIH, K4VX/0, K0RF, AA6TT, ect. in a
DX
contest a few times and we will talk about whining... Only then, one
of
        us won't be ignorant!

> KR2J: Really guys, I feel your pain. I also apologize for thinking that I
could
have any perception of how awful this must be!

Boy, Bob, I don't think so. Based on my many operations from W0AIH and, by
comparison, my recent "US-peditions" out east to W3LPL and K3LR, I don't
think you have a clue. Therefore I wish to be the first to invite you to
W0AIH to operate with us this fall. Just let me know your band preference
and I'll get it arranged (preferrably a low-band, to realize the full
effect).

You see, we go there time and time again, not to win, but to act like
winners, have a good time with good friends, and to do the best we can. No
whining. We ARE asking for regional reporting, so we can see how we've done
against "our" competition - not "to make things a little more equitable for
those who
have been held back due to propagation inequality". We also ask that rules
aren't changed that favor areas that are already favored.

See you soon!

Starting with the 1994 contests, CQ WPX logs can be submitted via e-mail
on the internet. The e-mail address is sdb@ag9v.ampr.org. Logs must be in
ASCII format with all of the required information. The log should be
unformatted and space delimited. For those using "CT", WRITEARRL or
AK1AFORMAT will produce a file that is acceptable. Other popular
logging programs should produce unformatted ASCII files in a similar
format. A summary sheet and a sorted prefix list are also required. Please
include a phone or fax number where you can be reached. If electronic
submission is well received, it will be continued in the future. This
address is for CQ WPX Logs only.

This is clearly a topic bordering on religion for some of you.
The big guns clearly favor getting every possible db......recent article
in NCJ comparing percentage score vrs erp makes interesting reading in
this reguard. Some interesting and varied opinions on trap losses and true
gain of yagis over dipole: Consensus is a optimized 3 element
monobander likely 5-6 dbd and traps losses 1 to 2 db on 20 for a
conventional 3 element tribander with significant variation in the
conventional 3 element tribander in terms of f/b.
Someone also suggested loading the boom for 40.....also a NCJ article in
June of 1993 I believe.
W6 fellows really like the new line of "force" antennas and I appreciated
their low key, realistic info package.
Bottom line: qrp contesting for the next 3 to 5 years......monobander.
Will let you know if loading the boom works on 40/15 etc.
