If software pirating of ham logging software exists (I have

then it is NOT a "private battle" to which concerned folks
should be told, if I read between the lines correctly, to
bug off.
If we, the amateur contesting community, expect to have
decent logging software, then we will have to foster the
attitude that it has to be paid for. (You might be
surprised at how little money a software author is willing
to make on his pet project, but zero is definitely below
the minimum). "Peer pressure" is the only prescribed solution,
but its pretty vague. I request VE6SH to use any channels
available to him as a CAC rep. to further the attitude
among contesters that running pirated software is as
acceptable as running illegal power, logging non-existent
QSOs, etc. And its not just because its immoral. Its because
contesting itself will suffer if authors won't write for
the market because hams cheat.
I know of at least one case that the money you spend on
logging software is, in effect, you bribing the author's
XYL to spend a little more time updating the program.
If the author were interested in making money, he'd write
for real customers that spend real money.

In my earlier message I talked about the cost of Vellox for protecting yagis
from ice buildup. Spoke with the owner today and learned two additional
facts: formulation can be used on most materials, not just aluminum; therefore
can be used on steel (whether guy wires or tower itself). Also, not on price
list but available is a kit of a pint of primer and container of spray paint,
estimated sufficient for 20-30 sq. ft coverage, that retails for $40. This

Did not say what was right or wrong......just what the vast majority of
people think. I wonder if trap lossess are more noticielble because
mechanical or electrical breakdown over time. I not a physicist, I fix
people for a living. I read something similiar to fred's comments in a
recent issue of qst describling the phasing of tribanders.
In any case, the general tone of the survey was quite clear.....you don't
get something for nothing and monobanders are considered the no
compromise approach whether its .5 or 1.5 db total loss in the a3
tribander. Why do I think this issue won't go away.......
