Come on ZX..can't we have a little fun with WRTC even if we don't go to San
Fran. What good is a great competition if we can't talk about it and express
a few opinions. BTW..in case anyone is worried, I am keeping the specific

You certainly can, but that's oversimplifying things a bit! 70ft is
probably the best COMPROMISE height for a single tri-bander when 10, 15 and
20 are all open.
(See W2PV book Chapter 5 on vertical patterns). However, it certainly is
NOT the best height, practical or otherwise, for a 40M beam (main lobe
about 30 deg).

For DXing add RELIABILITY to that list, but for contesting brute strength
isn't a bad idea, disgusting as that may be!

Hi all,
Could I pick the brains of the contest community about the proper
spacings for stacking monoband yagis. This info will be used at GI0KOW
when we get around to putting up better antennas.
At present on 20M is a 4el at 90' on a 40' boom with a Hygain 402BA
stacked above at about 100' for 40M. This works well. At what height
should a second 4el 20M be placed...40/50/60 feet??. This bottom yagi
will be fixed towards Stateside with a switching arangement for top or
both yagis fed. Also, would it be worth the hassle of putting a second
40M yagi on this mast ??. Is the mast high enough, because it's
certainly strong enough (7 feet wide at the base,freestanding).
Another 70' mast is about to go up, and on this we would like 6/6 on 10
and 6/6 on 15M (again bottom yagis fixed to Stateside). The plan is to
put the top 15M yagi at 80' and the top 10M yagi at 70'. Should this be
reversed?. In either case, again what is the best height for the bottom
6el yagis? 10M yagis will have a 26' boom and 15M yagis will be 32'.
Also, does anyone have WORKING dimensions for 75/80M wire yagis (3/4
elements preferably), or possibly a 6el wire yagi on 40M.
So could some of the big-guns please tell me how it's done, and possibly
some of the pit-falls to avoid when stacking yagis.
With a bit of luck, some of this should be up for the start of the
contesting season.
If I get a number of replies, I'll post a summary to all in case others
are interested.
