The following is a summary of the responses to my inquiry of voice keyers:
I was looking for a keyer that I could use at home and for contest
expeditions.
W9XT Card: Nearly everyone liked this one. The biggest problem is it
only fits in an ISA slot. K8ND suggested a PCMCIA and
PCI version would be nice. I also have two parallel
ports which may cause a conflict. KL7RA had RFI on
record during a contest . He also had some Icom
compatibility problems. This would be great for home
but not usable with a laptop. Hopefully Gary will make
other versions soon.
MFJ-432: K8CC and KL7RA both had to isolate the grounds when
using this to eliminate hum. Otherwise it appears to
work well. K8CC also wired his parallel port to the
switches so it was controllable by his computer.
Sound Card: Many are using the soundcard in their computers with
good results. It appears Writelog and TR Log support
this and CT does not
ZS4TX keyer: This keyer does voice and CW and has SO2R capabilities.
N5TJ was the only respondent who used this and he
said it worked flawlessly. I wish I had more data on
this one. Maybe Jay will let me use one in seven
weeks from P40A.

Subject: [CQ-Contest] Voice Keyer
I'm looking for recommendations on voice keyers. I've been using a Yaesu
DVS-2 for four years and I've never liked the audio quality. I've
considered the W9XT card, which may be good for home use but it won't work
for contest expeditions using a laptop. So tell me what you're using and
how you like it!
