[CQ-Contest] CQ 160 SSB - QSO problems

Hello all

I would echo what Martin VK5GN said. I don't want to single out
any U.S. stations for criticism, but some of them were very loud here
and impossible to work. We can speculate about their QRM levels,
their RX antennas, etc., but for whatever reason they are losing QSOs
- quite often a weaker U.S. station will come straight back to your
call, whereas the louder ones don't hear you. Certainly the QRM
levels on 160m SSB must be about the worst on any band/mode.

One other factor is poor operating technique - one K8 station mentioned
by Martin was barely giving his RX AGC time to recover before calling
CQ again - maybe the operator was more familiar with 15m pile-ups
and didn't realise that weaker Eu stations may give their callsigns twice
in an effort to get through or overcome QSB ? This is a common problem.
