I'm not sure I buy this.

Part 97.109 talks about control operators, and it's clear 
that in a station being locally controlled (as it would 
most likely be during a contest - it's not being remotely 
or automatically controlled) the control operator must be 
at the control point.  If someone is borrowing your callsign 
and you're in the next county mowing your lawn, you are not 
at the control point.
