My inflation calculator shows that a $13k radio today was a $2k radio in 1954. Not so far out of line is it? Of course I will not be ordering one unless Ed McMahon knocks on my door. Actually, most inflation calculators I have found say it's closer to $1900. On the other hand, was there such a thing as a $1.9-2K amateur radio (or even a pair) in 1954? My guess is that the closest approach would be a 75A4/32V3 combo, but I don't have any 1954 price information on them. These new humongophone radios aside, I don't think there is much question that on a current dollar basis, the price/performance of the current radios is miles ahead of anything we could buy back then. I vividly remember scraping pennies together for an RME 4350A at $140. Would I pay $1000 for that kind of performance today? I don't think so! 73, Pete N4ZR The World HF Contest Station Database was updated on April 26, 2004 2706 contest stations at www.pvrc.org/WCSD/WCSDsearch.htm _______________________________________________ CQ-Contest mailing list CQ-Contest@contesting.com http://lists.contesting.com/mailman/listinfo/cq-contest |
