I think it's not just a "DX" thing. It's operating style.
Take a listen to NAQP Phone.
"Thanks for the QSO, take care... blah-blah-blah... QRZ?" :-))
However they come back with their calls if you ask.
That's one of the reasons why I don't like phone contests anymore.
