Why is this being picked apart again?
Items in brackets are sometimes considered to be an example of the main
point of the encompassing sentence. So, in rule 4.4 below, there is to be
check variable with the example of it given as the last 2 digits of the year
you were first licenced. Basically, as long as they are used consistently
throught the contest, you can use ANY 2 DIGITS. During the last round of
debate on this subject, someone queried the ARRL and they replied, in as
many words, that they didn't care. If the last 2 digits of the year you were
first licenced were the only digits you could use, the rule would state
"Check consisting of the last two digits of the year you were first
licenced" with no brackets. BTW, "licenced" means amateur radio licence. If
it were anything else, it would also have been spelled out.
Has anyone been disqualified by the ARRL for using a check of something
other than the last two digits of the year they were first licenced? Who
checks to make sure all the checks used are correct? It's a piece of
information sent so that it can be copied correctly as a test of your
operating skill. Why is this such a difficult concept to grasp?
