Naw - that would just make the 40m total go through the roof. This has been
an issue for a lot longer than half a sunspot cycle. Us OTs can't just wow
you with charts and graphs like is normal today - because none of us (?)
have our logs from the 70s in ASCII for computer analysis (or do we?). Does
anyone have a good audio recording of a USA west coast station running JAs
on 15m from the 70s? That would make the point I think.
I think of it like this: when I have operated CQWW from HC8, when the JAs
start calling in, that is the closest you can get to what running JAs from a
west-coast multi-multi USED to be like. I'll see if I have an old Galapagos
tape around here. If you've never heard it, you won't believe it.
Martin's theory would be easy to test: sponsor some really attractive awards
for Japanese competitors and publicize them in Japan. If the activity comes
back then his theory is correct. If it does not then lack of awards is not
the issue.
