I have been informed that certain logs for ARRL VHF contests can only be
properly submitted in Cabrillo version 3. But I have also been warned that
not all contest sponsors can accept Cabrillo version 3. I am not concerned
about the "big sponsors" (ARRL and CQ), it's the state QSO parties, etc.
that worry me, which is why I post on this general forum.
My question: is the warning valid? are there contest sponsors that cannot
accept Cabrillo version 3?
The spec is here (and its about 2 years old, by the way--this is not
something "brand new")
http://www.kkn.net/~trey/cabrillo/
There is a note there about "backwards compatible", but that is for V3
robots receiving V2 logs, V3 logs to V2 robots is not mentioned. The issue
for a logging program is that creating files optionally in V2 or V3 is a bit
of a mess, and you pretty much have to depend on the user to know which to
select, and its most likely that a large number of users won't know.
The two specs are very, very, similar, so its also possible that a program
designed to create V3, will create a file that a V2 parser will accept. So
maybe this is a non-issue.
A reply to just me at w5xd@writelog.com will be sufficient.
Thanks,
Wayne, W5XD
