Dave,

The reason CHECKLOGs should be accepted late is because the deadline is not
only to "speed up the log checking process" - it's also and perhaps more
importantly, to limit the amount of time for post-contest log
manipulations/shenanigans.

The more logs submitted - including late CHECKLOGs - makes the entire log
checking process more accurate.

There is a great deal of work that has to be done post-deadline and having
other logs dribble in while this is going on is not a negative thing at all
- it is actually encouraged or it certainly should be.

Simply, if someone misses the deadline, they should submit their log anyway.
Again, any contest sponsor that outright rejects a late log and doesn't even
accept it as a CHECKLOG is making a huge mistake.

The log checking process is actually very complex and portions of it are
very labor-intensive. All of this begins post-deadline. If you think about
it, it has to.

There have been articles written in the past describing the log checking
process but due to recent technological advances, it may be time for someone
to write another such article so that log checking might be better
understood and appreciated.

Bob W5OV

Beats me why you think that contest sponsors should accept your late
checklog. If they were to actually try to use it for anything it would
slow things down for everyone else. The deadline is there to speed up
the log checking process ... which is where all the logs go into a large
database and get crunched by the computer. Why should they (at least in
theory) have to run it again just for your log?

Some strange logic here ...

as a protest, only to have the log rejected. So which contests accept check
logs? From my personal experience, it appears that some contest robots do
not accept late logs. I had that happen to me recently, I forget which
contest, I deleted the return email that said my log was rejected for being
late.
