This was the first SSB Sprint where I made more than 1 QSO but I was still
very part time just dabbling a little throughout the evening. I thought it
was fun and enjoyed the quick chat with many of the sprinters I have met
much more often on other modes. The participants were certainly
enthusiastic in their CQ's, "Sprint! Sprint!".
I plan to participate in SSB Sprints again in the future, probably not full
time but who knows?
The fact that it was going on during a major DX phone contest (WAE SSB) may
have lowered participation. While I did some time in WAE SSB I think NA SSB
Sprint was actually more fun. There was a similar conundrum the weekend
before when NA CW Sprint happened on same weekend as CWOps (although not
actually overlapping).
Historically, The fall NA Sprint SSB happened on same weekend as WAE SSB in
2013 and 2014. They were a week apart in earlier years. I'm sure there's
going to be some kind of collision with some other activity no matter what.
I think the hours of the NA Sprints are great for me. I am very happy in
the CW and RTTY legs to get a solid 4 hours BIC time and starting after
dinnertime is what makes this possible for me.
