The DX D is a great device that well accommodated the hardware available back
in its day. N3RD is to be congratulated.

Yet, despite the availability of the PIEXX USB to LPT adapter, and despite how
useful that adapter is in helping hams with DX D boxes who upgrade out of
having LPT ports, I'm not sure I'd recommend a new purchase of a DX D.

(Great if you get one used, though. The lower cost should compensate for future
compatibility issues.)

It's hard to know whether future applications will outstrip the ability of the
PIEXX-DXD combination.

The DXD was a great device in its day, and certainly continues to serve its
users well today. How well it will continue to survive future innovations
remains to be seen.
