I am a contesting Elmer in my club. I am always trying to get new people
interested in Radiosport. Putting hurdles in their path is not the way to
attract new contesters. Telling them that, before they can contest, they need
to buy a $75 recorder or figure out some other way to record the entire contest
on the chance that they might unintendedly score in the top 5 in the QRP
category, just might be enough of a hurdle for them to spend the weekend
watching golf instead.
Maybe, just, maybe, this rule should be reconsidered in light of its impact on
the hobby vs. the value gained, given today’s technology, towards possibly
catching one or two cheaters.
