Hey, who said they were an “FT-8 Hater”?
I returned to my shack at the beginning of May after spending my winter in the
mountains away from radios.
Found that FT-8 was “all the thing”, so I jumped in with WSJT-x, JTAlert,
PSKreporter, etc. In a little over a month of casual operating I have about
1,700 contacts, WAS, and 95 DXCC’s confirmed (thank you, LoTW). Does that
sound like I “hate” it?
My comments here do not “trash talk” FT-8, but simply question the whether
outside (or inside) spotting assistance is of any value in a mode that
effectively presents a total picture of what you can work, right there in front
of you locally on your operative screen. What is the point of spotting
something to me that is already clearly visible on my computer screen (and if
it isn’t visible, of what value is a spot)?

Subject: Re: [DX-IS] Re: RBN Announcement on FT8 Spotting
I think many of you are simply jumping on the FT-8 Hater's bandwagon without
actually checking out the mode,
its capabilities, and what it can do for you. Don't drink the Kool-Aid, going
with group think like walking dead zombies! Experience new things with an open
mind and then decide for yourself, not based only on what someone else says.
You might
actually discover that your negative thoughts were groundless. Read the fine
print about things. Learn what they do, why they do it, and how they do it.
Then make your own decision. This negativity towards FT-8 sounds like a
textbook case of progressive brainwashing. Think for yourself, people, after
you learn the truth about things, not just because someone told you something
bad.. That's THEIR opinion, based upon their experiences, or most likely lack
thereof. Think and do for yourself. Don't
be controlled.. That is a valuable lesson that could be applied to life in
general, not just the FT-8 issue.
