I haven't read that book, but I do read several newspapers every day.
Several years ago, one or more firms that specializes in super-automated
programmed trading set up an office at a location very to that of the
computers that run stock trading. The objective (and it worked) was to
shave microseconds off the propagation of both information TO them and
their trade orders to the system.
It would make NO sense to do this on the ham bands, where the path would
be much longer.
