Hi Charles:

Thanks for your comments.
Seems that the majority has a good impression with the ORION.
I really don´t know what is happening. Maybe my equipment has something
wrong because the difference is realy considerable between MARK V and ORION.

I think the 1000MP series receivers test out very well and are pretty
straightforward to use. Lots of contests have been won using them. I
sold my MK V after getting the Orion.. I prefer ICOM radios but keep
looking for something to help my aging ears.
The Orion seems as good as the mkV to my ears, but it is a very
unfriendly radio and the scope that I love in the IC756PRO and IC7800
is useless in the Orion.
Im never sure that I have the right settings for the conditions I
operate under: however, usually I can hold a frequency well with the
Orion and QRM near by...
Interestingly on 160 this weekend SOME times I could copy weak signals
on the IC7800 and not on the ORION..not enough time to find the right
AGC settings I guess...

I think for setting in a spot or working 1 band..with some patience the
Orion may really be the best receiver out there, but there are enough
annoyances to make that very questionable. For multi mode
contesting..say IARU... the lack of flexibility is a big problem.

Im keeping my Orion, until I am sure the IC7800 is as good... I like the
7800 user interface better than Yaesu or Orion...Last weekend I did
running mostly on Orion and S&P/packet chasing on IC 7800..
Always a pleasure to work you.. glad Im not the only user that doesnt
find the Orion to be perfect..
