Probably some sort of ferrite incorporated in the insulation to help
suppress EMI. We've been looking at a ferrite-loaded heat shrink tubing
at work as an EMI fix for a standard cable. The stuff is VERY expensive,
but it's relatively cheap when you need to meet a military contractual
requirement that nobody planned for in the design stage.
