Not only is egress a problem for them, but where there is egress, it is also likely that there will be ingress into the cable system. The cable companies really won't like ingress because if strong enough, it can interfere with the return signal from cable modems and telephones. They will then have lots of reports of these services not working. If there is really a problem being caused by cable egress, they should be very interested in fixing it.

Don't let them tell you this. There are specific FCC requirements for signal "egress", so if you can identify the frequency with a cable TV channel, and pin it on them, then they are indeed required to fix it. Tell them that you'll report them to the FCC, and see if their tune changes.
