: Kurt, be careful to look at the specs of the one you choose. Most of those : units you're referring to are FM only. I bought a FT-60 : (yaesu) specifically to have an AM capable HT. The boards I am looking at are specified for AM, most are FM, but one or two models state AM. I also have an FT-60 which is mode selectable. Ihave not tried this specific radio for RFI detection in the 300 MHz range but I have used the VHF "air band" to look for noise.
