Well, if the objective is to keep all interconnected equipment at the same potential, we want connections some small fraction of a wavelength long.

Lead inductance is the problem; EMC Engineer and author Glen Dash (WB9CLJ -- may not be active, no antennas seen on satellite view) used to say "Ground isn't ground the world around"; IIRC, he once suggested using a really big sheet of metal with substantial capacitance as a low inductance RF ground.
