That is what I have been told. I also looked it up on a website devoted to
digital modes, and it is mentioned there too. It is also shown on youtube in
several videos.

Yes. It is a digital mode.

Correct. The nearest one is Fairchild AFB in Spokane, WA almost 100 miles
north and a bit west of me.

My question, exactly. Why here?

That is what I had thought also, thus my attempts to DF it....with no success
so far. I think what is needed here is an Adcock array, since, so far, it seems
obvious that this crap is very widespread.

To reiterate: what it sounds like on a ham band is VERY loud "band noise" or
"white noise". Several hams in the area are experiencing it, but could never
determine what it was, exactly, since it sounds so much like "white noise".

So far, it has been heard by hams within a 10 mile radius. It is also being
heard by our SM at a level of S-9. He lives in Post Falls, Idaho which is 100
miles north and a bit east of me.

Although I am not yet certain of this, I believe it is also being heard in
Nevada at a level of S-9.

24/7/365.

I DID hear it cut off for about 3 seconds one afternoon, but it returned with a
vengeance. On the 80 meter band, when I am tuned to about 3573 KHz, it is
normally a minimum of 10db over S-9, rising to 20db over S-9 most of the
time.

W7QWH reports it at S-9 on 40 meters 24/7/365. Tom lives about 3 miles to
the east of me.

It has been reported at well over S-9 on 160, 80, and 40 meters out on
Lenville Road at another ham's location who is about 4 miles to the
south-east of me.

Etc.

As I said, it is on 24/7. Logging it isn't necessary.

I do, and I have. It does not appear to peak anywhere in town. However,
tomorrow, my son and I will attempt, again, to DF this crap.

I doubt if we will be successful...

I would very much appreciate anyone on this forum who has the capability to
tune to 4286.3 KHz AM, or 4285.5 USB to see if any of the others of you can
hear it at your location.

I suspect it is VERY widespread, but am not certain at this point.

If you have a beam antenna, I would appreciate your attempting to get some
sort of heading to it.

I intend to investigate building an Adcock array here if we cannot determine
the location of this crap by any other means.
