No problems noticed here on HF with either CFLs (many years) or LEDs (more
recent), both regular and the dimmables on a dimmer purchased at a big box
supplier. Experienced one CFL that became noisy just before it expired.
CFLs don't like to be in enclosures - read the fine print on the box. It
appears to be due to heating in the switching supplies based on dissection.
The ones that have failed so far were early versions, mostly given out free
from the local Hydro (electricity company to rest of world) as part of an
energy use awareness and reduction program. Of course, YMMV, but as those
glass FETs in our rigs are gone, it's likely that Mr. Edison's monode is a
thing of the past.
