Dick,
You're right about this being an old man's game. Multi op stations posted
99.
Some contest committees seem oblivious to this problem of older and older
average ages, and continue with blinders on. They won't even TRY forming an
special category for UNDER 25 operators, complete with plaques, et al.
--------------------------------------------------------------
Another thing, the Makrothen scoring scheme was, in my estimation, a bit of
GENIUS. Finally! A scoring scheme to take away the UNEARNED benefit East
Coasters (like me) have over the Midwest and west coast into Europe, and the
same
for the West Coast and JA. Scoring, based on distance worked with number of
countries worked as mults is a fair(er) way to score contests. It also might
bring more marginal, competitive people into this facet of the hobby.
Since RTTY seems to be most closely aligned with things digital -- perhaps a
drive by RTTY ops to include younger ops would lead the way for the rest of
the contest crowd. Myself excluded, I find RTTY contesters -- as a group -- to
be considerate, informed, willing to learn, willing to ask questions and
willing to try new things. One can't say this about too many groups, now days.
73,
Mike
