I have found that MMTTY is rather sensitive as to the nature of the
com ports used. When I upgraded to an XP machine I continued to use
my old com port card from my 98 machine. While it worked most of the
time, it caused problems with MMTTY, mostly by hanging in the TX mode
and refusing to return to RX. Upgrading to a new designed-for-XP card
cured the problem.

This may not fix all issues, but the cards are not expensive. If in
doubt, upgrade.
