When you think about it, in an absolute sense, you are communicating on the
same frequency. The dial readings on the rigs my not agree, just as using a
1200/1400 tone pair on USB only tends to distort what appears to be the
operating frequency.
I recall a number of years ago there was a 'center-frequency' concept
introduced to define the 'frequency of data exchange'. Of course there is an
offset -- and some rigs can have their display output adjusted.
