I agree, that is a bit heavy. If you want something really small,
check out the Yaesu FT-100D. I used one on AFSK RTTY for a while and
it worked pretty well. It is very small and has a detachable
faceplate. I'm pretty sure they are out of production now but should
be available on the used market. Covers all bands from 160 through 440
MHz except  220 MHz. And that is not a typo. :-)

If you or anyone is curious about the FT-100D, let me know and I will
email you a pdf copy of the manual.
