You can still get PCs with serial and parallel ports built in - I got 
one this past summer, and see them advertised still.

Over here I see used PCs (like when a business sold out their old PCs 
to the store as they upgraded to new ones) for from $100 up to $200 - 
very powerful PCs, typically with Serial, parallel, and XP Pro.

You can add serial ports by plugging in an inexpensive PCI card. I 
added two additional serials and one additional parallel to mine - 
cost around $25, IIRC.
