And yes you are correct.
In its simplest form the 940s/950sdx require two line to transmit FSK.
A PTT and FSK input.

The System does work AFSK, with tones thru the Mic input.

I wish there was a bit more documentation on the Jumper settings for the 
PTT & Rig Control and Serial jumpers in the manual though.
