1) too many people do not know how to build and adjust a *clean* AFSK
interface. They overdrive the mic preamp in the rig and generate
multiple "ghost" signals up/down the band. They connect the AFSK
interface to the same power supply as the rig and get RF feedback
into the mic input. They leave the SSB processor engaged and
generate IMD (yes, even with RTTY) with broad/unstable signals.
2) too many rigs do not allow narrow IF filtering with AFSK (USB)
which leaves the second IF, detector, AGC and sound card exposed
to strong adjacent channel signals which causes all manner of
degradation to the received signal.
